Mount Washington is not a particular high, cold, snowy etc. mountain, but the mountain is situated in a harsh and rugged environment. In April 1934 there was a storm building, and on the afternoon of April 12, it culminated as the anemometer recorded a gust with the extreme value of 231 mph or 372 kilometers per hour out of the southeast, which still today stands as the all-time surface wind speed observed by man record!
