I had never ridden a mountain bike before, for such bikes had been made public while I had been out of bikes. I found the gear shift a bit distracting, for my old bikes had had a fixed gear, and the gearshift on the fixed bikes in the gym I had never used. So I just found the gear setting which would not be too fast when going downhill and still possible the tread when going uphill.
