I finished as 11th among the 12 finishers in my age group, so my main target of not becoming the last had been fulfilled. Two days later I was participating in my third and last competition, the 10000m track race. Weather was now not as friendly as it had been on Tuesday, and after only three laps on the track a hefty shower came up. But during my many years in the mountains, I knew that this nuisance probably struck my competitors harder than me.
