I had not been hiking in Sweden for a year by then. A severe January storm had uprooted large parts of the forests, cutting the electricity to hundreds of villages for weeks and made the forest roads and tracks impassable for months. This was now nine months ago, but there were still a lot of places where we had to deviate from the marked paths still buried under the trees.
