We started the trip in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and made our way up through the Reintal, one of the longest in the range and leading straight to the foot of the highest peak, the Zugspitze. The first hour or so I kept my thermal shirt on, but as the day grew hotter I threw the shirt in my pack, doing what I always prefer to do: walking in wearing just my spandex gear and a pair of well-used Converse sneakers.
