When translated from Swedish, Fulufjället means the 'foul mountains'. Knowing that these mountains are covered with snow most of the year, it is imperative for winter travellers that there are places to find natural shelter from snow storms when passing here. And there are no such shelter here in these foul mountains, as opposed to the nearby Drevfjällen or 'drift mountains', having plenty of irregularities where snow drifts are formed to give some shelter from the wind when digging in.
