The standard route to the summit of Guadalupe Peak is naturally quite frequented, as on most highpoints in the U.S., but the campsite is a bit out of the way, just down on the far side of a small hill, about a quarter mile from the main track. Soon I crossed the hill to the main track and started descending it.
