During the summer I a few times had been walking from my mate's summer house down to the dike and then to the bridge, as a part of my rehabilitation after the previous year's surgery, but I had not put my feet on the sandy spit yet, as I expected that it would be too dangerous for my still rather fragile knees to walk on the dry sand.
