The woods of Dyrehaven had for centuries been a royal hunting ground, and after abolishment of the absolute monarchy in Denmark in the 19th century, the wood had been taken over by the state just like many other royal areas, and due to the proximity to Copenhagen, Dyrehaven had become one of the most visited nature resorts for Copenhageners like me.
