Although not rainbow colored, there were still a lot of colorful people in former days at Fort Garland. One of the highlights of Fort Garland is a permanent exhibition of the Buffalo Soldiers. A large numbers af colored people enroled in the army in the last third of the 19th century, hoping to share a new life here. Some of them were segregated in separate units, and were called 'Buffalo Soldiers'.
