After the long train and bus ride I was set off outside the small town of Sälen, from where I would begin my hike into the highlands. It was now in the dusk, and a forceful wind was blowing the low clouds and rain showers across the frontier from Norway. Luckily I had only an easy four kilometres to hike up to a mountain lake, where I had planned to stay the first night in a fishing camp.
