We had started the ascent in the early morning at the bottom of Mount Warning, climbing gradually up through the dense rainforest, though from time to time the forest opened up to a grandiose view over the surrounding area. Mount Warning was the remaining part of the core from a long extinct volcano, and on the horizon we could clearly see the outline of the old crater.
