High Gear

I had been crossing the frontier to Germany at exactly the same spot 17 years ago when in 1988 I made a three-day hike from Monschau with my old climbing mates. In those days there were clear signs informing of the frontier crossing, but with the continuous building up of the European Community these signs have now been removed. The old barrier is though still there.
