Stepping out this back door we were soon away from everything. Knowing that on a good day more than a thousand Japanese climb to the top of Fuji-san, it was clear to see that not many of these begin their climb at Kawaguchi-ko, this once wide trail now nothing more than a narrow footpath. Daylight was slowly disappearing, the adventure could begin.
